What to do if your headlamps are not working

This article provides instructions on what to do if your headlamps are not working. First, check the fuse box for a blown fuse. If the fuse box is not functioning properly, it is likely that a fuse has blown. Second, check the headlight aim to see if it needs to be adjusted. To check the aim yourself, park the car on level ground about 25 feet from a wall or garage door. With the headlights on, draw an imaginary horizontal line across the center of each headlight beam. Then, draw a vertical line down from the center of each headlight. Where the lines intersect is the center of the headlight beam. The headlight beam should hit the wall or door at the same height as the center of the headlight. If it doesn't, use a wrench or socket to turn the headlight adjustment screw until the beam is properly aimed. Third, check the bulbs to see if they need to be replaced. If a bulb is burned out, it will need to be replaced. You can do this by unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in a new one. Be careful not to touch the new bulb with your bare hands, as the oils from your skin can shorten its life.

Check the fuse box for a blown fuse.

If the fuse box in your home is not functioning properly, it is likely that a fuse has blown. A blown fuse will cause the circuit it is feeding to stop working. To check the fuse box for a blown fuse, first identify which fuse is blown by looking at the diagram on the inside of the fuse box cover. Once you have located the blown fuse, replace it with a new one of the same amperage.

Check the headlight aim to see if it needs to be adjusted.

Headlight aim should be checked at least once a year, and should be adjusted if necessary. You can check the aim yourself, or take it to a professional. If you adjust the aim yourself, park the car on level ground about 25 feet from a wall or garage door. If you take your car to a professional, they will usually use a special tool to measure the headlight aim. They will then adjust the headlights to meet the manufacturer's specifications.

Check the bulbs to see if they need to be replaced.

As the seasons change, so does the amount of daylight. In the fall and winter, when the days are shorter, it's important to make sure your home is well-lit to ward off the chill and darkness. One way to do this is to check the bulbs in your lamps and outdoor lights to see if they need to be replaced. If a bulb is burned out, it will need to be replaced. You can do this by unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in a new one. Be careful not to touch the new bulb with your bare hands, as the oils from your skin can shorten its life. If a bulb is flickering or giving off a dim light, it may just need to be tightened. This can be done by screwing the bulb in tighter or, in some cases, by adjusting the socket. If you have any questions about changing a light bulb, consult your owner's manual or the manufacturer's website.
